YEBO® DIFFERENT CITIES, SAME FIRE™ | Red Summer 1919 – Oversized Heavyweight Graphic Tee
DIFFERENT CITIES. SAME FIRE.
RED SUMMER 1919 | A HISTORY THEY CAN'T ERASE.
IT WASN'T ONE CITY. IT WAS A PATTERN.
Chicago. Washington, D.C. Omaha. Elaine.
Different cities. Different streets. Different communities.
The same hatred. The same violence. The same struggle to survive.
In the summer of 1919, America erupted in one of the deadliest periods of racial violence in its history.
While Black Americans returned home from World War I after fighting for freedom overseas, they encountered a nation unwilling to extend those same freedoms to them.
They had worn the uniform. Defended the flag. Sacrificed for their country.
But their service did not protect them from racial terror.
Across the United States, white mobs attacked Black neighborhoods, businesses, families, and returning veterans. Homes were destroyed. Communities were terrorized. Lives were taken.
In Chicago, racial violence engulfed the city following the drowning of a Black teenager, Eugene Williams, after white beachgoers threw stones at him.
In Washington, D.C., Black residents faced mob violence and organized to defend their communities.
In Omaha, Nebraska, Will Brown, a Black man, was brutally lynched during a white mob attack that also resulted in the burning of the county courthouse.
In Elaine, Arkansas, Black sharecroppers organizing for fair compensation were met with mass racial violence that left an estimated 100 to 237 Black people dead, with some estimates higher.
These were not isolated incidents.
They were part of a nationwide pattern of racial terror intended to suppress Black advancement, economic independence, and the pursuit of equality.
Their progress was seen as a threat. Their determination was met with violence.
Yet through it all, Black communities continued to resist, rebuild, organize, and fight for the rights they had already earned.
That resistance is part of the history we refuse to forget.
THE STORY BEHIND THE DESIGN
DIFFERENT CITIES, SAME FIRE™ captures the brutal reality of Red Summer 1919 through powerful, documentary-inspired artwork.
The front features a Black soldier standing alongside a mother and child—a representation of military service, family, vulnerability, and the determination to protect future generations.
Behind them, burning buildings symbolize the devastation inflicted upon Black communities.
The back documents the broader geographical pattern, connecting Chicago, Washington, D.C., Omaha, and Elaine through a dramatic map and archival-inspired imagery.
Together, the artwork tells a story too often condensed into a footnote in American history.
Because the violence wasn't confined to one city. And neither was the resistance.
This is not a celebration of destruction.
It is a remembrance of those who endured it.
MORE THAN A GRAPHIC TEE
This design was created for individuals who believe history deserves to be confronted, understood, and remembered.
For those who recognize that the freedoms enjoyed today were shaped by people who refused to surrender their dignity yesterday.
For those who understand that progress has never come without resistance.
DIFFERENT CITIES. SAME FIRE.
Different streets. Same hatred. Same war. Our people were not the problem. Our progress was.
